3 Good Things to help you with finding your place in the French Sun
1) Credit Agricole – Britline. Banking for Britons in France
This bank is a game changer. You get to speak to English speaking banking professionals who are professional and knowledgable and make the administrative processes in France easier to understand. They have a service that will help you make international payments back to the UK, or anywhere else in the world. First class, kind and good people to deal with always ready to help in any way possible. Professional.
2) Reverso Translation Service.
Another belter of a service. This has helped me so much translate legal documents, vet reports and all other things in the course of running a business. Note that you have to write english, the French way, to get a really good translation and then I double check what I have written in google translate. Reverso has the edge, sure you have to pay a bit, and it is so worth it as it translates even scanned PDF’s. Fantastic.
3) Paying your taxes in France – Very Important
Find a good accountant in France
The French tax system is very complicated. There are taxes for the property you are own, there are taxes for the property that you rent but don’t own, and there are taxes for places you live in that come with the job.
There are infinite rules for income tax – the one thing to know is that in France, the rules are the rules and you cannot re-write them. It is your responsibility to know your fiscal liabilities and assets.
So I urge you all to seek professional advice on this to start, once you get the hang of it you can probably get up and running yourself as you are a smart cookie. To start with, believe me, don’t second guess it, otherwise it will get messy.
The best thing to do is find yourself a qualified accountant. You can always try Rydge to start, pricey but worth it.
If you want to run a business in France and need advice, I have found Valerie Aston to be enormously helpful. She produces great content and courses for people wishing to start their new life in France, her website is at https://www.startbusinessinfrance.com
I live and work in France, as a farmer/gardener.
Bonne chance et bon courage toujours!
